Ringworm is not actually a parasitic worm. Ringworm is a contagious fungus that usually looks like circle of red bumps. The fungus is contagious, and while it is usually not much more than an annoying source of itchiness, it can lead to athlete’s foot, jock itch, and hair loss. If you suspect that you might have ringworm, you should cease training immediately and see a doctor, only returning to the mat when the ringworm has completely disappeared.
In most cases, doctors will prescribe a topical treatment like Lamisil (found at most drugstores). If the case severe, they may prescribe a more aggressive treatment that includes oral medicine.
