    Marshal D. Carper says:

Staph is feared by grapplers everywhere because it is highly contagious and can be life-threatening.

Staph is short for staphylococcus, a type of bacteria that can actually occur in the noses and on the skin of completely healthy individuals without serious complications. If staph enters your bloodstream or a deeper part of your body, like your bones or organs, it can cause serious health complications. Basically, it looks like someone is strip-mining away your flesh.

Like any serious infection, a staph infection can present in a number of ways. It usually starts as what otherwise looks like a pimple, but it may also be accompanied by a fever. From there, the situation deteriorates as the infection worsens. If a staph infection is left untreated, it can kill you. If you suspect that you might have a staph infection, seek medical help immediately. You cannot tough-guy a staph infection.

The even worse news: some forms of staph, like the dreaded MRSA, are antibiotic resistance and are therefore much more difficult to treat. Again, this should emphasize the importance of seeing a doctor right away. If you have MRSA, beginning treatment earlier can make your experience much less traumatic.
