    Marshal D. Carper says:

Our advice here is the same it was for ringworm: train in a clean facility with partners that are equally committed to maintaining a high standard of hygiene. Keeping your own gear clean and scrubbing yourself down thoroughly after training will help as well, but the responsibility for preventing staph or any other sort of disease transmission is shared by everyone in the gym.

Jiu-jitsu is a high contact sport, which in itself is a germ’s Holy Grail. Do not complicate the situation with unsanitary, unhygienic habits. As awkward as it may be, you should not tolerate a training partner who has neglected hygiene. No one should recycle unwashed gis or train with cat-like fingernails. Everyone should start training smelling bodywash-fresh.

Only you can prevent staph infections, so take responsibility and hold others accountable as well.
