    Aesopian says:

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gis/kimonos (same thing) have a reputation for being pricey, with the average cost being about $150. Prices are going up as more brands are rise into the $175-200 range. But if you’re willing to shop around and search for deals, and you don’t care about making a fashion statement, you can still get a good BJJ gi for $100-130 or less.

Below is a list of companies with good reputations that sell BJJ gis for $130 or less:

    • Faixa Rua
    • Fuji
    • Fushida
    • Gorilla
    • Howard Combat Kimonos (HCK)
    • Killer Bee
    • Live Love Fight
    • Padilla & Sons
    • Submission FC
    • Subculture
    • Tatami

Of these, Fuji has the best reputation for being the cheapest good gi for white belts. You can often pick one up for $80-90.

Fenom is a women’s only brand that sells highly praised gis for $80-90. I know guys who wish they made men’s sizes.

The classic big brands are Atama, Koral, MKimonos, and Gameness. These are all good, though they have all suffered from price inflation. (My first gi was a $60 Atama in 2004. Good luck ever matching that.) If you watch for sales, you can find them for closer to $100-130.

The main advice I give white belts is to watch BJJHQ.com for a daily deal. Fuji and Tatami often go on sale for less than $100, and any brand going for $130 or less is worth getting.
