Rear Naked Choke
Hi,
I’m from Europe (Amsterdam) and new to BJJ, could you please answer my questions about BJJ? I’m following some BJJ lessons online, my question is if someone uses Rear Naked Choke does it prevent you from breathing? Does it prevent you from talking when someone uses near naked choke? I heard this technique is dangerous to practice at home without attending real school, is that true? If my partner doesn’t feel well when choked, can he talk and let me know to stop?
Many thanks in advance for your time and answering my questions.
Best regards,
Ehsan, warmest regards from Europe
Yes, it is very hard to talk while in a rear naked choke, because you are a bit more concerned with breathing, at least from experience. It is very hard to breathe while in a rear naked choke because it’s a bloodchoke, and when applied to a person, cuts off the blood flow to the brain. I’ve never tried a RNC at home, but I don’t know if I would recommend it. But if you are going to practice a RNC on someone, please, before each time you attempt it (each attempt, not every session), tell your partner to tap out (basically tap on your body or the floor, or they can say tap, but it is a little more difficult) if they don’t feel well.
I hope this helped!
