    Aesopian says:

The main belt ranks in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu are:

    1. White
    2. Blue
    3. Purple
    4. Brown
    5. Black

Belts are also split into degrees or “stripes.” Every belt except black has up to four stripes, though we should note that these are not always awarded consistently.

Black belts have ten degrees. Most are awarded based on minimum time requirements. At the higher degrees, the belt changes to red-and-white, red-and-black, and ultimately just red.

The degree system and the higher black belt ranks are explained here: Why do some BJJ belts have stripes and what do they mean?

A few schools use green belts between white and blue, but that color is usually only used for kids. You can read abou that here: Why do some adults earn green belts in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

    The kids belts are usually:

    1. White
    2. Grey
    3. Yellow
    4. Orange
    5. Green

The IBJJF has extended the kids system by adding the grey belt, and adding two variations on each rank (like “yellow/white” and “yellow/black”), as well as new red and yellow stripes. The full kids’ system is explained here: What are the BJJ belt ranks for children?
