    Aesopian says:

You just keep training until someone gives it to you!

    Okay, here’s a better answer:

    1. Train for 1-2 years
    2. Show up to class consistently (more important than you know!)
    3. Work on your basics, no need to get fancy
    4. Get in shape–no tapping to exhaustion
    5. Start doing well against blue belts in sparring
    6. Competing will get you noticed
    7. Don’t be a douche bag (no one wants to promote a douche bag)

As a white belt, it is normal to be dreaming of wearing that glorious, magical blue belt, but don’t stress over it too much. Focus on the process of learning and training. The belts will come if you keep training to improve.
